The lesson lifecycle and statuses

Every lesson moves through the same four states — from scheduled to completed or canceled.

Updated June 4, 2026

A lesson always carries a status that tells everyone — parent, coach, and gym — where it stands. Knowing the four states makes the rest of Handspring easy to follow.

The four statuses#

StatusWhat it means
ScheduledA coach has booked the lesson; it's waiting for the parent to confirm.
ConfirmedThe parent confirmed and a card is held. The lesson is locked in.
CompletedThe session happened and the coach closed it out. Payment is captured.
CanceledThe parent or coach canceled before it happened. Any hold is released, minus a cancellation fee if one applies.

How a lesson moves#

Most lessons go Scheduled → Confirmed → Completed. A coach can also reschedule or transfer a lesson along the way, and either side can cancel before it happens. The money side tracks these states closely — see How payments work.

Coaches who auto-approve existing students may skip the wait — a lesson can arrive already Confirmed.
