Fees and who pays them
Each lesson carries a platform fee and a processing fee. Who absorbs them is a setting.

Two fees can apply to a lesson: a Handspring platform fee and a card-processing fee. The lesson price is set by the coach or gym; the fees sit on top. What changes from lesson to lesson is who pays them.
Fee responsibility#
Coaches and gyms choose how fees are handled. The setting decides whether the client sees fees added to their total, or the coach absorbs them out of the lesson price.
| Setting | Who absorbs the fees |
|---|---|
Coach | The coach absorbs the fees; the client pays just the lesson price. |
Client | The fees are added to the client's total. |
Split | The fees are shared between coach and client. |
Gym | The gym sets or overrides how fees are handled for its coaches. |
Where you'll see it
Parents always see the exact total — including any fees — in the confirmation window before paying. Coaches see fees reflected in their balance and payouts.
Tips are different#
Tips don't follow these rules — Handspring charges no platform fee and takes no split on a tip, though standard card-processing fees still apply. See Tips.
